Lucas Oil racer Morgan loaded up and ready for Western Swing

SEATTLE (July 7) -- Larry Morgan is starting fresh during the NHRA's vaunted Western Swing.

A week off following a grueling four straight race grind has given Morgan a chance to take his Lucas Oil Ford Mustang Pro Stock car back to his Newark, Ohio-based shop and give it a thorough once-over ahead of the Full Throttle Series' annual western trek, which begins this weekend in Seattle with the NHRA Northwest Nationals.

"We've freshened everything up and made sure it was right," Morgan said. "We are just starting to look like we know what we were doing."

After an early part of the season where he often found himself struggling to get his new Ford motor running correctly, Morgan has made the elimination field at three straight races and even won a round in the last event in Norwalk, Ohio.

While out west, Morgan isn't going to have the luxury of dashing back to his engine shop for parts, so he said the Lucas Oil Racing hauler left the shop prepared for anything.

"We just got a bunch of engines done, loaded them up, and sent them on their way," Morgan said. "The toughest part of the Western Swing is getting there. It's a long way out to some of those tracks."

With a batch of fresh parts at his disposal, Morgan will now focus on getting them all tuned-up to the sometimes challenging conditions in the Seattle area.

"I like going to Seattle," Morgan said, "but you never know what you're going to get. It can be cool there and it can be hot. It looks like this year is going to be one of the hot years. Either way, it is one of the more laid-back races of the tour and that makes it nice.

"When we first prepared the car it was going to be 70 degrees there. Now, it looks like it's going to be 90, so we'll have to do a little extra work once we get to the track. I want to make sure we're ready to go come Friday.
