Team Jeg's spent Thursday testing at Mission Raceway in Canada. The objective of the impromptu testing session was accomplished after just two runs in each car, as expected by the team before starting.
The Jeg's Mail Order support trailer pulled into Seattle International Raceway early Friday morning and began setting up their pit area with the sun coming up. Fresh from a rest filled evening and a successful test session there is a higher energy level surrounding the members of Team Jeg's.
In the first qualifying session Troy was the first to take on the track. His yellow and black Jeg's Mail Order Chevrolet Cavalier rolled into the left lane. After Troy stopped on the track and started to put the car into reverse he ran into problems.
Troy ended up shutting off when he returned to the starting line. When the car returned to the pit area the crew took the transmission out and could see that the reverse gear broke.
"I am just glad that we are getting this bad luck out of the way early this weekend," said Troy as he smiled.
Jeg Coughlin and his bow tie entry took on the right lane in the first of the four scheduled qualifying sessions. The reigning Pro Stock Champion ran into problems after his burnout when he stopped the car and began backing up to the starting line. He was ultimately forced to shut off the Jeg's machine.
"It felt like I had no accelerator pedal. I pushed my foot down and nothing happened. We decided to shut off the car off on the starting line and push the Jeg's machine back to the pit area. When we got back it was clear that the pin in the linkage came out and was no where to be found. We hurt a valve in the burnout so it really was a blessing," explained Jeg.
Jeg started off the rotation in the second session for the Pro Stock class. He was in the left lane and ran alone with improving firmly imbedded in his mind. The yellow and black Jeg's machine launched from the line and made a move toward the center stripe at the 330-foot clock. Jeg quickly drove the Cavalier back to the center of the groove.
He crossed the finish line beams with a 6.951 at 200.02 mph. The run moved him up to the No. 18 spot. Jeg will begin the second and final day of qualifying on the outside looking in.
"We had a lot to improve on in the second session. I knew that we needed the run and the data so I stayed with it all the way down. We our looking forward to continuing our trend of improving tomorrow," said Jeg.
Troy rolled into the right lane for the second session. He darted off of the line and moved around down track. Troy handled the car moving around with ease. He ran a 6.898 at 199.82 mph and landed in the No. 12 position.
"We needed to make a good run in the second session and we did. Now we can use the data to help our entire program and get both of our Jeg's Mail Order Chevy Cavalier to respond better next time we go down the track," commented Troy.
