JEG'S Mail Order Racing Sunday Pit Notes
Jeg Coughlin/Pro Stock:
In the first round Jeg lined up next to Allen Johnson, both drivers are know for their strong reaction times off of the starting line. Jeg was put in the right lane by Allen Johnson. Allen Johnson took the advantage off of the starting line, Jeg followed close behind. The yellow and black JEG'S machine blasted down the track. When the car got to the transition from concrete to pavement it threw the car off to the right toward the wall. Jeg stayed with it, but the car continued to move around down track. Coughlin was forced to shut off and watch Allen Johnson take the win light with a very beatable time. "This track really threw us a curve ball today. We will put this event behind us and focus of winning Sonoma next week," said Jeg.
Troy Coughlin/Pro Stock:
Troy went head-to-head against Mark Pawuk the classic Mail Order Company battle, JEG'S -vs.- Summit. Troy took the reaction time advantage and pair laid it into a win. The yellow and black JEG'S machine took off down the middle of the groove all the way to the stripe. Pawuk ran into traction problems in the preferred left lane and was forced to shut off. The engine in the #24 JEG'S Mail Order Olds Cutlass was hurt on the top end, about fourth gear. Coughlin noticed that the oil pressure was fine so he stayed in it and turned the win light on. "Knowing that the engine still had oil pressure left me no other option then to keep my foot down on the gas peddle," noted Troy.
In the second round Troy faced off against Pro Stock "rookie" Mike Trumble. Although Trumble took the starting line advantage by a sizable margin. However, the DART Machinery/Maskin horsepower came on strong and the win light went on for the yellow and black JEG'S machine. This win was very rewarding for the team, which made an engine change between rounds. Coughlin stated, "Team work made this possible. When I found out that the engine was hurt after the first round the team went to work immediately. By the time I got back to our pit the team already had the new engine out of the trailer and ready to go. Everyone on our team works toward the same goal."
The semifinal round put Troy Coughlin against Kurt Johnson. The #24 JEG'S Mail Order Olds took the starting line advantage. Troy blasted down the track. As the car was launching from the starting line it darted toward the 60' foot clock. By the time the car got 100' feet down track the car was all the way out of the groove on the left side and riding the yellow line that divides the two lanes. Troy stayed with it racing down the yellow line and ran into traction problems, he was forced to let off. Troy said, "We battled a traction problem most of the weekend. When the horsepower gripped the track it shot me off to the left and then the car lost traction and started to spin. We will move on and focus our energy 110% on winning Sonoma." Troy gained more valuable points by getting to the semifinal round.
