TONY GILLIG BREAKS INTO THE FIELD FOR THE FIRST TIME QUALIFIES #15 IN SEATTLE
KENT, Wash - (August 1, 1999) Prolong Super Lubricants Northwest Nationals Tony Gillig found the bug that has plagued his Olds Cutlass all season. "We changed everything but my seat in this car this year. We tried moving this, changing that, and finally we think we found our problem - CARBURETORS!"
In the opening round of final elimination's, set for Sunday at 1:00 p.m. Tony, and Crew Chief/Dad Bob Gillig will line up against the awesome power of Kurt Johnson. Tony qualified #15 with a very respectable 6.972 @ 197.16 mph. Tony climbed up from his first qualifying attempt of 7.141 @ 192.99 mph. Second round of qualifying Gillig improved only slightly with a 7.036 @ 194.13. Third round was the charm. "We went nuts in our pit area. I knew this car had it in her to get us into the field. I'm really at a loss for words, I'm just happy to be here, and for the first time this year we are going to first round of eliminations. Life is good!"
