Howard looking to rebound in Memphis

MILLINGTON, Tenn. - After a disappointing DNQ two weeks ago in Houston, defending two-time NHRA Division 4 Top Alcohol Dragster Champion Shelly Howard is hoping to rebound at this weekend's Division 4 Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series event at Memphis Motorsports Park. Despite coming in off a sour note, Howard and her team are ready to start things anew this weekend.

Howard, a registered nurse from Tulsa, Okla., hopes her team can make some 'withdrawals' from the proverbial luck bank after their 'deposits' in Houston.

"In Houston we just couldn't get things to go our way," said Howard. "It just wasn't our weekend. Sometimes you're going to have that in racing. We're just putting it behind us and focusing on this weekend. You've got to have a little bit of luck to do good in racing, and we certainly didn't have that on our side that weekend. We're just going back out there with our normal gameplan of trying to do the best we can do. Hopefully luck will be on our side this weekend."

Howard is quick to point out one race doesn't kill the entire season.

"We didn't get to race here in Memphis last year," stated Howard. "So we know we're not 'doomed' from here on out. We'll just have to stay focused and take it one run at a time."

Qualifying starts on Friday for the alcohol cars, with two more sessions on Saturday. Final eliminations will conclude the event on Sunday.
