FRAM Boost Dragster Runs 4.702 Seconds in Night Session
SONOMA, Calif., July 28, 2006 -- Cory McClenathan and the Carrier Boyz Racing FRAM Boost Top Fuel team dodged a potential problem with a solid, albeit conservative 4.702-second qualifying run Friday night, good enough for 13th going into Saturday's final two runs in the FRAM Autolite Nationals at Infineon Raceway.
"We had a malfunction in the timing system on the first run and it set off all the timers at once in the fuel and clutch systems," said McClenathan. "That caused fuel pump to keep running and it was pumping fuel into the cockpit. I thought it best to shut it off."
The second run was flawless.
"Wes (Cerny, the crew chief) had a hard call to make and he didn't want to be too aggressive, so he set it up a little softer to make sure the car got down the track with a decent number. This is our sponsor's title race and we want to do well for them. We should run better Saturday."
