Line rebounds to No. 3 at Sonoma
SONOMA, Calif. (July 27, 2007) -- Jason Line, driver of the KB Racing LLC, Summit Racing Equipment Pontiac GTO, earned the No. 3 qualifying position on the final ladder for 20th annual NHRA FRAM Autolite Nationals.
After what Line himself called "a lackluster Friday," the reigning NHRA POWERade Pro Stock champ rebounded in the Saturday morning qualifying session running a stout 6.613-second elapsed time at an Infineon Raceway track record speed of 208.59 mph.
"After I put it high gear I said to myself, 'we're going to qualify,'" said Line, regarding his first run today. "I was nervous. It's been a few races since we've made a good run with the car. There have been a number of different issues, and actually it's been a matter of testing a lot of stuff, and it's one of those things.
"This weekend, we've made some great calls and it looks like we have two competitive cars. I'm more excited about racing on Sunday than I've been in a long time."
Line's KB Racing, Summit Racing Equipment teammate, Greg Anderson, qualified No. 1 with a track record elapsed time of 6.605 seconds at 208.20 mph.
Tomorrow, Line opens eliminations with V. Gaines in the other lane. Gaines qualified No. 14 with a best pass of 6.657 seconds at 207.56 mph.
