SONOMA, Calif. (July 31, 2004) - For the fourth consecutive race, Larry Dixon and Don Prudhomme's Miller Lite team qualified in the top half of the Top Fuel order after Dixon drove to the No. 6 qualifying spot Saturday at Infineon Raceway.

Dixon used a Dick LaHaie tune-up to power to his best performance of the weekend on Friday evening after the two-time defending NHRA Top Fuel champion piloted his Miller Lite dragster to a run of 4.661 seconds at 312.42 mph at the Northern California Facility.

"Ever since Denver we've been pretty much in test mode," Dixon said. "As each rule comes down all the past data you've had can be thrown out the window. There are a lot of adjustments that we used to be able to make and now we can't make those adjustments anymore. So, you have to find a new way of doing things and that's what we're doing now. It's all trail and error.

"We got down the track both runs yesterday. We tried to make the car run quicker today and we shook the tires and the normal way that we would adjust to fix the problem we're not allowed to do any longer."

Dixon eyes a second straight win at Infineon Raceway when he faces No. 11 qualifier John Smith in the first round of Top Fuel eliminations Sunday at 11 a.m. (PT). Dixon is 6-0 in his career versus Smith. Last July, the 34-time NHRA winner defeated David Baca in the final round at Infineon Raceway, becoming just the fourth driver to sweep grueling the Western Swing.

ESPN2 will televise two hours of qualifying highlights from the FRAM-Autolite Nationals at 7 p.m. (ET) on Saturday, July 31 and show three hours of final eliminations coverage at 8 p.m. (ET) on Sunday, Aug. 1
