New Lucas Oil Mustang has Morgan dreaming of more Sonoma glory

SONOMA, Calif. (July 13) -- With his engine performing more consistently and data from his new racecar pouring into his data banks, Pro Stock veteran Larry Morgan is ready to make some noise in the Lucas Oil Ford Mustang Pro Stock car starting this weekend at the 24th annual Fram-Autolite NHRA Nationals at Infineon Raceway.

"Getting this Lucas Oil/Summit Racing Mustang in the finals in the near future will be a great thing," Morgan said. "That's what we're shooting for right now. We've made a lot of progress with the engines staying together and the new car is great. We have all the pieces in place."

After a stretch of six races in the first part of the season where he didn't qualify, Morgan has qualified for four straight races and has moved to 16th in the season standings. He unveiled a new Sinned Customs race car at Seattle, and in the process became the first Pro Stock driver to try out carbon fiber wheelie bars on a racecar.

"We put five good runs on the car in Seattle and this new chassis is awesome," Morgan said. "Hopefully we'll do real good in Sonoma. I like that place quite a bit."

Morgan won Sonoma in 2002 and was runner up there in 1991.

"The conditions can be really good if that marine layer hangs around," Morgan said. "Usually you get more than that one real good night session on Friday, so it's a better deal all the way around. We're excited about racing at Infineon and excited the new car has gone down the track every time and didn't end up on its roof."
