TOPEKA, Kan. - From hero to zero would best describe the weekend Federal Mogul Dragster driver David Wells had at this past weekend's NHRA Division 5 Federal Mogul Drag Racing Series event at Heartland Park in Topeka, Kan. Wells came into the event hot off a win at Route 66 Raceway in his Blue Bunny Ice Creme/ "Plain Vanilla" Blown Alcohol Dragster. With event officials canceling one of the qualifying sessions due to bad weather forecasts, qualifying was cut short to two sessions. Wells experienced transmission failures in both sessions.
"We had a transmission problem that we didn't diagnose right in the first round," said Wells, of LeMars, Iowa. "It had a second problem in it besides the one we fixed on Friday. It rolled the sprag on both runs. They kind of cut us short on qualifying, and we just didn't get back in there. We're just done for this weekend."
"We could have got it down through there if we had had one more run," added Wells. "We just have to pick up from here, and keep going."
Wells' next event will be back at Heartland Park Topeka, for the Advance Auto Parts Nationals to be held Memorial Day weekend.
