HERBERT ANXIOUS TO GO RACING AT HEARTLAND
Topeka, Kan. (May 30, 2007) -- After a three week break in racing action, Doug Herbert, driver of the Snap-on Tools Top Fuel dragster, is anxious to get back to racing at this weekends 19th annual NHRA Summer Nationals at Heartland Park Topeka.
After the postponement of the Bristol, Tenn., event from May 18-20 until July 7-10, every team on the NHRA POWERade tour took an unexpected three week break, and now look forward to racing for eight of the next nine weeks.
"The next two months will be a challenge for every team on the NHRA POWERade tour," said Herbert, "but at least we are all in the same boat. I know I'm ready to get back in the driver's seat, and I know the Snap-on team is ready to go."
In the new Countdown to the Championship format, only 10 races remain until the field fighting for the Championship is narrowed down to the top eight teams. With one final round appearance behind them, Herbert and the Snap-on Tools team took full advantage of the break to get the Snap-on Tools dragster ready to make the next phase of the Countdown.
"We plan on making the Countdown to the Championship," said Herbert, "and I think having the extra time to work on things back at the shop has definitely been good for us. It gave us a few extra days to make sure the dragster is ready to win races.
"The team also got the chance to take some time off and do a little relaxing, and now we're ready to get back to racing at Heartland Park."
Having raced at Heartland Park Topeka for more than 15 years, Herbert has had his share of both good and bad experiences.
"I've had a little of it all in Topeka," said Herbert. "I crashed here in '93, which definitely was one of those bad experiences. But I've also won here, back in '99 against Joe Amato.
"This weekend will be special because my sister, Heather, will be here cheering for me and the Snap-on Tools team on Sunday. She is in the United States Army JAG Corps and has recently been moved to Missouri. I don't get to see her as often as I would like, and would really like to celebrate with her in winner's circle."
