NIVER, 3 OTHERS COLLECT NHRA WINS AT TOPEKA WITH GOODYEAR
TOPEKA, Kansas (June 2, 2008) -- Mark Niver collected his first national event victory in NHRA competition when he highlighted a list of four drivers taking Goodyear tires to victory in the O'Reilly Summer Nationals at Heartland Park Topeka.
Niver's victory came in the Top Alcohol Dragster category, where Goodyear has won six times this season. That's the best total among tiremakers in TAD. All told, Goodyear-shod cars have won 41 times this season in national events.
Goodyear's other winners included Hillary Will, who won her first Top Fuel victory; John Force, who increased his career total to 126 Funny Car wins and Ron Krisher, who extended Goodyear's decade-long win streak in Pro Stock.
Will defeated Larry Dixon. It was the first meeting for the pair in a final round and Will's reaction time, .038 of a second, was the key to the win. Tony Schumacher continues to lead the Top Fuel standings.
Force beat Tim Wilkerson and moved to third place in the category standings. Wilkerson leads with 643 points.
Krisher beat Larry Morgan to collect his second victory at Topeka and the sixth win of his career. Kurt Johnson holds a narrow 621-601 lead over Jeg Coughlin in the Pro Stock championship hunt. Goodyear has won the last 344 Pro Stock events.
