Anderson Begins Diagnostic Work after Quarterfinal Finish in Topeka

Summit Racing Pontiac racer Greg Anderson faced several challenges entering Sunday's final eliminations of the O'Reilly Summer Nationals in Topeka, KS. After battling the conditions and a recalcitrant race car in qualifying 10th, his pursuit of a fifth Heartland Park Topeka victory would start against his teammate Jason Line, in only the second first-round meeting of their careers.

Although Anderson came out on top in the intramural battle and advanced to the second round for the eighth time in this season's nine races, questions still remained about the health of his Pro Stock Pontiac, as his 6.763-second, 202.91 mph pass was off the pace of the top competitors. Despite the KB Racing crew's best efforts to find a solution, rival and No. 2 qualifier Allen Johnson used the quickest time of the round to score the win. In looking at the data afterwards, the three-time champion came to the realization that some serious diagnostic work would be required prior to the next race.

"Until this weekend, it looked like we were just a little off in the set up with our Summit Racing Pontiac," said Anderson. "However, our performance here in Topeka made it fairly obvious that we have a serious issue with our race package. I'm not sure if it's the car, the electrical system or the engine, but there is some sort of gremlin preventing us from running as well as we should be.

"However, we're not about to fold up our tent and hope it runs better at the next race. We have a weekend off before we go to Chicago, so we're going back to the shop and examine every aspect of our program.. We're also going to test, doing whatever's necessary to figure out what's wrong with our race cars. We have some long days ahead of us, but I know we'll have a better product, which should put us in good shape for the four-race stretch we have coming up in June."
