Humphreys Makes Most of First Two Runs in Car
TOPEKA, Kansas, May 30, 2008 -- Justin Humphreys got off to a positive start in his first race driving an Allen Johnson Mopar Dodge Friday and came away the 11th quickest run of 6.761 seconds at 203.68 mph in the opening round of qualifying for Sunday's O'Reilly Summer Nationals at Heartland Park Topeka,
Johnson and Don Schumacher offered Humphreys the ride after his RaceRedi Motorsports team was suddenly left without an engine supplier earlier this week.
"We can't complain," the Monrovia, Md., driver said. "This was a whole new deal for us. Everything is different in the Mopar cars, but we'll keep working on it. We'll get it done with all the good people we have working on the car. It was good to see the car going down the track."
With no opportunity to test the car prior to the race, Humphreys got down the track in 6.819 seconds and was 13th after one lap
Two more runs are on tap Saturday to set the 16-car starting line-up.
