A Rare Occurrence--
Milford, Michigan -- The final race of NHRA's 2005 Division 3 season ended earlier than hoped for by the VIPsports.com team. This past weekend, the 2005 Dodge Stratus Top Alcohol Funny Car qualified fourth, at National Trail Raceway, near Columbus, Ohio. The ParkerTech Racing Services crew improved the car's e.t. from 5.856, in qualifying, to 5.821 in the first elimination round, but the car went down to a hole shot -- a rare occurrence for driver Danny Townsend. Making the team's loss even harder to bear was the winning e.t. of Frank Manzo -- a slower 5.878.
Make-up elimination rounds from the Bowling Green divisional race were completed on Saturday, in conjunction with the Columbus qualifying sessions. Townsend had easily won the first round, at Beech Bend Raceway Park, on August 27th, before rains washed out the weekend. In the semi-finals, at Columbus, Townsend and the VIPsports.com Dodge Stratus met Chuck Cheeseman. The meeting didn't go well, as Cheeseman crossed the finish line first, closing the Bowling Green chapter of the VIPsports.com yearbook.
The VIPsports.com team's final season race will take place this weekend, September 30th -- October 2nd, at the Rt. 66 Ameriquest Mortgage NHRA Nationals, in Peoria, Illinois. The VIPsports.com car is already qualified for the prestigious Jeg's All Stars event, which runs during the national race. Frank Parker, team owner, and his crew are putting their best efforts into assuring the coming weekend will be a 2005 grand finale and portent of what VIPsports.com can expect in 2006.
