After an action-filled first race on Saturday, the Micra Cup participants prepared themselves for Round 2. Stefan Gauthier clinched pole position in his No. 96 Micra, beating the reigning Cup champion, Xavier Coupal, the 2015 Cup champion Olivier Bédard, Kevin King, the winner of Round 1, Jean-Michel Isabelle and Valérie Limoges. However, Gauthier was penalised from the previous race’s accident involving Brian Makse. The penalty promoted Coupal in first place for the start.

Rain, and more rain

Persistent rain made the Canadian Tire Motorsport Park fast road course extremely slippery for the start of the race. Coupal jumped into the lead, followed by Gauthier, Bédard and Isabelle. Kevin King was running a strong race and by Lap 2, he was already up in third place.

On Lap 6, Bédard took the lead from Coupal, but that only lasted for a few corners. Round 1 winner, Jean-Michel Isabelle was clearly at ease in the rain and made it to fourth place on Lap 4, and to second on Lap 7. He eventually took the lead from Coupal at the end of Lap 8, moving past his rival between Corners 8 and 9.

A huge battle developed during the final laps for third place. With Isabelle and Coupal out in the lead, King, Australian Keishi Ayukai and Bédard fought door-to-door, making no mistakes despite the treacherous conditions.

Isabelle crossed the line in first place, winning a second race in succession. Coupal arrived home in second ahead of King, Ayukai, Bédard, veteran Normand Boyer and Valérie Limoges.

Isabelle stands on top of the point standings with 82 points ahead of King (68) and Coupal (64).

Next race will be held this coming weekend at Circuit Mont-Tremblant, Québec.
