This year will mark the third season of the Cup that features race-ready, identically prepared, showroom stock Nissan Micras, a model exclusive to Canada.

This year, the Micra Cup will consist of two race weekends in Ontario and four race weekends in the province of Québec.

Sanctioned by Auto Sport Québec (ASQ) and presented by JD Promotion & Compétition with the support of Nissan Canada, the Nissan Micra Cup held its inaugural season in 2015 exclusively in Québec. The Cup expanded to Ontario last year with races held on Calabogie Motorsport Park near Ottawa and on Canadian Tire Motorsport Park’s road course near Toronto.

Two former open-wheel competitors captured the Cup in its first two years: Olivier Bédard in 2015 and Xavier Coupal in 2016. Each race weekend includes two hours of track time consisting of a 30-minute practice session, a 30-minute qualifying session, and two 30-minute races. The series is destined for any racing enthusiast who’s looking for an entry point into motorsport competition, or anyone who wants to experience the rush of adrenaline inherent with racing cars are all well-suited to this series.

“We always consult with the entrants, teams, and drivers when we want to make changes to the Cup,” Jacques Deshaies, organizer and promoter of the Nissan Micra Cup, told Motorsport.com.

“We had eight race meetings last year and we decided to drop the two events that were the least interesting and attracted the least spectators. This year, we have just six races meetings. We’re going twice to the Canadian Tire Motorsport Park, three times at Le Circuit Mont-Tremblant and we are part of the prestigious Grand Prix of Trois-Rivières. We want to keep the series as affordable as possible. For that reason, eight race meetings were excessive last year. We are fully aware that most competitors also want to spend some time with their families during the summer. I think this year’s calendar is well balanced and sees the Cup compete on some of the most exiting road courses this country has to offer.”
