Cadiente Disappointed After Great Start at Parker 425
Mesa, Arizona (February 8, 2007) The Best in the Desert Silver State Series season opener race started with a bang as the defending Trick Truck Champion, Garron Cadiente, qualified the #38 Ford F-150 with a fast run to put him in the top spot among the nation's top desert racers. Cadiente later chatted with Robby Gordon, who congratulated the 2006 Rookie of the Year on his lightning fast time trial run late Thursday afternoon.
Cadiente was all business as he darted into the Arizona desert from the start line in downtown Parker, Arizona. Thousands of spectators lined the race course as the #38 race truck led the pack until he exploded a wheel near race mile 58, allowing one truck to get by and take the lead.
Cadiente suffered a blown out ring and pinion 41-miles later that forced the #38 into limp mode in order to survive the trek into the main pit. While the crew was busy swapping out the broken parts on Cadiente's truck, Jeff Geiser, driving the #39 G&R Racing truck, suffered a pair of broken power steering hoses after a miscalculated adventure off the race course.
Back in the game, Cadiente charged his Ford F150 race truck into the desert for a solid run finishing the difficult Parker 425 in 11 hours and 30 seconds, taking sixth position and collecting the important 70 series points for his efforts at the first race of the BITD Silver State Series.
Ron Whitton overcame the challenges of climbing into the battered and beaten #39 Ford F150 race truck and ran a swift pace to claim a top five position as he finished fourth in the elite Trick Truck division. Whitton's overall time of 8 hours, 39 minutes and 54 seconds was slightly an hour off the overall winning time.
"The #39 G&R Racing truck suffered an off course adventure before Ron had the chance to climb behind the wheel," explained Team Manager Brian Godfrey. "We lost a considerable amount of time with the repair and that took us out of contention for one of the top spots. Our crew, however, was impressive in their response in dealing with the on course problems and overcoming the challenges they were face with. Each race is a learning experience and both trucks finishing the race under trying conditions was a positive step towards a repeat performance of last season's championship run."
The next scheduled race of the 2007 season is the 21st Annual SCORE San Felipe 250 held on the shores of the Sea of Cortez. This race is the first of three races held in Baja California, Mexico. Garron Cadiente scored his first-ever Trophy Truck victory at the 2006 SCORE San Felipe 250 and you can be sure he'll be rocketing towards a repeat performance in early March.
