Avon, Ind. (May 10, 2001) - The excitement for the fourth season of the Championship Off-Road Racing EXXON Superflo Series began shortly following the conclusion of Tour 2000.
Although Rob MacCachren, Scott Taylor, and Jeff Kincaid rewrote the CORR record books, the final point standings in each division proved that the competition is getting tougher each year, and more drivers are ready to take their shot at the championship in 2001.
As the CORR EXXON Superflo Series begins Saturday, May 19 at Midwest Off-Road Raceway in Fort Dodge, Iowa, it is hard to forget what Tour 2000 provided for the fans and racers.
In 2000, no one anticipated Pro-Lite driver Jeff Kincaid winning 12 out of 18 rounds in his Forest County Potawatomi Toyota Tacoma. Not only did he break the record of the most wins in a single season, he also started with five consecutive wins, another CORR record.
As the defending Pro-2 champion in Tour 2000, Scott Taylor knew there was a bulls-eye on his EXXON Superflo Ford. Maybe he did not realize how difficult it would be to defend his championship. Evan Evans and Carl Renezeder proved to be formidable adversaries for Taylor. It took 18 exhausting rounds for Taylor to re-claim his crown, narrowly defeating Evans by 11 points276 to 265.
Rob MacCachren had the daunting task of encountering the likes of Rod Millen, Curt LeDuc, Adrian Cenni, and Scott Douglas in 2000. These competitors are proven winners, with 19 career wins among the four. In MacCachren's championship season, he compiled nine victories and 17 top-five finishes, proving he belongs in this elite group, recognized as one of the best in the sport.
Tour 2000 was a remarkable year in Championship Off-Road Racing. What will the 2001 season bring for the fans and drivers? Eight events and sixteen rounds of the toughest racing ever seen. With more than $1 million dollars in purse money and contingency, the drivers in all eight divisions will not back down to anyone.
"Following an incredible 2000 season, it is hard to imagine what 2001 will bring to the fans of the CORR EXXON Superflo Series," said CORR President Marty Reid. "We are delighted to start the season at Fort Dodge, which proved to be an instant success last year."
This is the second year Fort Dodge will host the CORR EXXON Superflo Series. The Midwest Off-Road Raceway will host a second event July 28-29. Practice will begin Friday, May 18 at 4:00 p.m. central time, with racing starting Saturday May 19 at 11:00 a.m. (see attached schedule).
Tickets range in price from $10.00 on Friday to $35.00 for the weekend (Saturday and Sunday). Please call 515-573-8745 for ticket information or visit www.corracing.com. <pre> CORR SCHEDULE FOR FORT DODGE May 18-20, 2001 Tentative
