HUSEMAN WINS Pro 4 SHOWDOWN in FABTECH / Toyo / Toyota TRD Truck
Sunday Victory Clinches Championship Series points lead as RHR Racing finishes every race thus far in the season -- 10 point margin over the field in Series Points!
Riverside, CALIFORNIA -- Facing the nation's toughest off road racers and some of the most extreme heat conditions in Championship Off Road Racing history, Rick Huseman captivated thousands of CORR fans, friends, sponsors and family with a gratifying victory Sunday afternoon.
The 2008 Championship Off-Road Racing Series (CORR) converged on the Las Vegas International Off-Road Raceway in Primm, Nevada for Rounds 3 & 4. Over 15,000 spectators crowded the grandstands. The two-day event was held at the 9,000-seat dirt raceway located behind Terrible's Buffalo Bills Resort and Casino, that includes a one-mile purpose-built race course featuring high banked turns, six-foot high bumps along with a high-speed front stretch.
Huseman made the most of this early season opportunity by putting the #3 FABTECH / Toyo Tires / Toyota TRD Pro 4 truck in victory lane. This early win catapults the #3 driver into the championship series point's lead after he dominated the full field of Pro 4 trucks all charging for the top spot.
Racing the entire day with a flawless race truck, Huseman confidently raced to the front of the pack and then ran away from the field in clean air. "It was nice to get out in front and run my own race. We were in a similar position only a few weeks ago and let it get away from us, but that wasn't going to happen today. My brother and crew chief, Danny Huseman, gave me a great truck today and I drove it as hard as I could, that's really what made the difference," said Rick.
"We just keep fighting to stay in the top three and moving forward in the series points. This win is for the team and I'm pretty happy about winning this early in the season. I've said it all along, that we can run up in front with Greaves, Renezeder and Douglas and well, here we are on top."
Chased by some of the best off road racers in the world, Huseman's showdown with the competition was wild from the start. The pace was wicked fast, as the battle for the top three spots merged together coming out of the second turn only seconds into the 18 lap race.
Huseman diced around the competition who banged bumpers and doors coming out of the precarious turn two and that's when Huseman made his charge to the front of the pack. Huseman's victory gave Toyota TRD back-to-back victories in the highly competitive Pro 4 field as the Monster Energy sponsored Toyota Pro 4 was victorious on Saturday.
Exiting the race truck with a big smile, Huseman explained his view from inside the cockpit, "Coming out of the second turn, I saw some daylight and put the front of the truck where I thought we'd have some room to run and this time it worked out perfect. The Toyota TRD package was excellent and charged extremely hard under full power. We needed every bit of horsepower to stay out in front of Douglas, Coyne and Renezeder and today we got it done. I've said it before, but here this afternoon the combination of power transferred to our Toyo Tires along with the FABTECH Suspension taking all of the abuse along this tough race course, says a lot for our partners involved in our race program."
The .94-mile race course challenged race teams from all over the United States as Championship Off Road Racing returned to Las Vegas for the first of two race weekends at the Primm, Nevada event center. The race track is known to feature some of the biggest bumps seen in the 16 race series. CORR schedules a total of eight race weekends throughout the season hosting two races per weekend, one on Saturday and another on Sunday. Even though the temperatures scorched the desert floor, thousands of spectators trekked to Primm, Nevada to watch the spectacular off road racing action.
The FABTECH / Toyo / Toyota TRD Pit Zone was busy as Rick and his crew were situated behind the grandstands, where fans were allowed nearly full access to the #3 race truck and crew.
Rick said, "It was a great racing weekend and the fans treated us great! We love to give the fans a big show and it's especially nice to get a solid win this early in the season. In only a few weeks, we are headed to our home track in Pomona at the LA Fairplex facility and I'm hoping to capitalize on this victory and keep the momentum going strong."
Rounds 3 and 4 of the CORR Series will air both on the Speed Channel and NBC TV on a delayed basis. A two-hour show is scheduled to air at 4 p.m. (PDT) next Saturday (May 24) on Speed TV and a one and one-half hour version is set to air at 9:30 a.m. (PDT) on Sunday, June 15 on NBC.
Next up are Rounds 5 and 6 of the 2008 CORR Series, to be held June 7-8 at the Los Angeles County Fairplex in Pomona, Californiia.
