Rockstar Makita Team LeDuc reaches CORR winner's circle when Todd LeDuc captures Saturday's Pro 2 main event

POMONA, Calif. -- Todd LeDuc lives in Cherry Valley, about 50 miles to the east, but the Rockstar Makita Team LeDuc driver is definitely making himself at home at the Los Angeles County Fairplex.

Saturday, in the third Championship Off-Road Racing series race of the year on the man-made course, LeDuc started his Toyo-shod Ford truck on the outside of the front row, got the lead at the start of the 18-lap race and led virtually all the way to win the Pro 2 class main event.

It was the first win of the year for Team LeDuc and the fifth CORR win overall for Todd, 29, who opened the season with a pair of fourth-place finishes at Pomona in last April.

The balance of the team had mixed results. Younger brother Kyle LeDuc finished third in the Pro 4 class after leading the 18-lap race at the halfway point, but father and team leader Curt LeDuc finished 13th after running as high as fifth at the midway point. Rookie Brian Deegan, the freestyle motocross legend, got 10th in the 15-lap Pro Lite main for his third straight top 10 finish.

There will be another round of racing in all classes beginning at noon Sunday, June 8.

"I qualified fifth," Todd said, "but the inversion (of the top qualifiers) put me on the outside of the front row. They had watered the track really heavily and I got a clean start and then let them eat my dirt.

"Jerry Whelchel passed me once, but I turned inside in a corner and passed him back, and Rob MacCachren got by me and I passed him back. I had the lead when the mandatory yellow came out (at mid-race) and got six (bonus) points for leading at the halfway point. Then when the race restarted the track finally started coming around.

"Whelchel was second, he was right behind me, but he rolled, and after that I just drove smart, didn't mess up and got to the finish."

Todd finished two seconds ahead of Ricky Johnson, with Jeremy McGrath third and MacCachren fourth.
