SCOTT DOUGLAS DEBUTS IN CORR PRO 2 SERIES WITH SUCCESSFUL WEEKEND IN MICHIGAN

With Third- and Second-Place Finishes in Rancho Ford, Veteran Driver Just One Point Behind Defending Champion

Lake Odessa, Mich., May 22, 2005 -- On two contrasting days of racing, Scott Douglas displayed his versatility by driving his Rancho Ford F-150 to third- and second-place finishes, respectively, in Saturday and Sunday's opening rounds of the 2005 Championship Off Road Racing (CORR) Lucas Oil Series. Douglas was making his debut in Pro 2 competition after having claimed multiple championships in 4WD competition.

After starting in tenth and sixth in his respective races, Douglas' strong finishes enabled the Douglas Motorsports Racing Team to compile 30 points for the weekend, and trail defending Pro 2 champion Scott Taylor by just one point.

"It was a successful weekend," Douglas said after the second race. "We validated our entry into Pro 2 this weekend, and I've got to congratulate the entire crew. They did a great job. We showed we could be more than just competitive. We want to challenge for the championship, and I think this weekend we showed we could do that."

On Saturday, under bright, sunny skies and temperatures hovering close to 80 degrees, Douglas started toward the back of the pack at No. 10.

"The start was really tough," he said, "But I was patient and knew that everyone in front of me was going to go wide. Then I went inside and just started picking them off."

Douglas wove his way through the dust and tough field and finished behind Taylor and Josh Baldwin.

"We had no mechanical problems at all," Douglas said. "The Rancho Ford ran great, and the Rancho suspension gave me a good edge in the moguls."

On Sunday, the weather did a flip-flop. The skies clouded up, rain was frequent and the temperatures dropped into the 50s. But Douglas adapted to the conditions.

"We made some slight modifications with our BFGoodrich tires, but other than that we just had to adapt to the conditions with patience," he said.

The Rancho Ford started sixth and Douglas used his same strategy by going low and letting the field around him go high. It worked and he was soon right behind leader Steve Barlow. About one-third of the way into the race, however, Douglas, Barlow and Evan Evans were jammed up in the mogul area. "Steve and I were battling each other and then Evan passed us," said Douglas.

Evans took the lead and Douglas zoomed past Barlow, but could never catch Evans.

b^0x001cWe were gaining on him with every lap, but just ran out of time," Douglas said. "But we were pleased with the overall results for the entire weekend. We're just looking forward to the next race. We've won five out of the last seven times there."

Douglas was referring to Langlade County Fairgrounds in Antigo, Wis., and the June 11-12 Mole Lake Regency Casino races.

The Langlade County Fairgrounds track is a 1.185-mile course that offers a longer challenge for Douglas and his sponsors: Rancho, DynoMax Performance Exhaust, Precision Gear, Ford, BFGoodrich, Reider Racing,BorgWarner, Mastercraft Seats, KC Hilites, Auto Meter, K&N, Howe Performance, and MSD Ignition.
