Pro-2 champion Scott Taylor's passion for racing continues.

Avon, Ind. (May 13, 2002) -- For 28 years, Scott Taylor has dedicated his life to racing. In that time, he has evolved into one of the most prolific off-road drivers. During his tenure as a Pro-2 driver in Championship Off Road Racing, Taylor has 24 wins in 66 starts, winning three consecutive Pro-2 championships from 1999 through 2001.

After becoming one of the most successful drivers in CORR, what keeps Taylor focused on winning? Passion.

"It's about passion, loving what you do, being part of it, being into the game," he said. "It's loving it, sleeping it, breathing it, and smelling it, just everything. When you lose that passion, you better find something new to do."

Taylor and his team have taken the mindset during this past off-season that they are seeking their first championship. For him to maintain the level of success that his team is accustomed to, Taylor knows that he needs to be better prepared for the 2002 CORR Lucas Oil Series season.

"When you're at the top of any kind of hill, you have everybody below you trying to knock you off," noted Taylor.

Along with being the defending champion, comes the added pressure and expectations of performing the way he has during his reign as the Pro-2 champion.

"Pressure never bothers me," said Taylor. "We've been working all winter to get things dialed in to get faster and stronger so we can take a few more risks and take a few more hits and not have any problems."

If, in fact, Taylor's new Mobil-1 Ford does get stronger and faster in 2002, he will undoubtedly have a good chance to win the Pro-2 championship for the fourth consecutive year.

As the three-time reigning Pro-2 champion, Taylor is an easy target for questions from fellow CORR competitors. Sandwiched in his hectic race schedule during each weekend are the times that Taylor gives a helping hand to the drivers who are learning the `ins and outs' of off-road racing. Early in his career, people guided him in the right direction, and he takes pride in talking with other drivers when he has a chance, he said.

"I can sure feel their (some of the young drivers) pain by their mistakes and downfalls because I was there," said Taylor. "I try to steer them along and show them the right way to go about some things. I never turn my head at them because they need help just like I did when I started."

Throughout his career, Taylor has had the opportunity to compete against several racers who have made a lasting impact in the Motorsports world, both in off-road and pavement racing. He's had battles with off road legend Walker Evans, and he's seen the development of current NASCAR drivers Jimmie Johnson and Brendan Gaughan, both of whom started their racing careers in off-road.

In 1997, Taylor beat Jimmie Johnson for the SODA Class 8 championship by three points, 241 to 238, so when he sees how Johnson's career has blossomed to super-star status in the NASCAR Winston Cup Series, Taylor is thrilled.

"I was proud of him that he won (on April 28 in Fontana, California)," said Taylor. " I e-mailed him at the end of the race and told him how proud I was of him. I know he thinks about the times he and I raced against one another," he said.

As Taylor continues his stellar off-road racing career in 2002, he will continue to leave his mark as one of the best competitors ever in Championship Off Road Racing history.
