FIRST HOME RACE FOR WISCONSIN NATIVES
Defending Pro-Lite champion Jeff Kincaid, Argonne, Wis., all-time CORR win leader Johnny Greaves, DePere, Wis., and Pro-Lite standouts Mark Krueger, Green Bay, and Tom Hoppock, Pulaski, Wis., will be making their 2001 home debut this weekend at the Precision Gear Kiwanis Off-Road Championships. Kincaid swept both Antigo races in 2000 on his way to a CORR record five-consecutive, season-opening victories. His Antigo success was the beginning of a record-setting year (12 wins in a season) and an Honorable Mention on the American Auto Racing Writers and Broadcasters Association (AARWBA) All-American Team.
Greaves will be racing in his third pro class in three years when he takes to the Antigo track for the first time in his new Pro-4 Toyota Tundra 4x4. After winning the 1998 and 1999 Pro-Lite championships and a CORR record 22 races; Greaves competing in the Pro-2 class last year in a Tundra. Greaves has seen success at Antigo with two career wins.
Green Bay native Krueger looks to build off his third-place overall finish in the Pro-Lite class last year in a Toyota Tacoma. He will be challenged by Steve Federico, Wilmette, Ill., who swept both Antigo races last year in the Single Buggy class and is racing a Pro-Lite Tacoma in 2001. He started the season in impressive fashion with a third-place finish at Ft. Dodge, Iowa, on May 19 in his first career Pro-Lite start. Another former Antigo winner, Chad Hord, Iron Mountain, Mich., who was a 1998 winner in the Super Buggy class; will also be racing a Tacoma in search of his first career Pro-Lite victory. He currently sits sixth in the Pro-Lite standings after the first event at Ft. Dodge.
TOYOTA CONTINUES OFF-ROAD CONTINGENCY SUPPORT
With a rich history of desert, short course and stadium off-road success, the manufacturer continues its support of Toyota-powered racers in the CORR off-road series in 2001. Through its Toyota Racing Development (TRD) grassroots program, Toyota is paying $1,000 for a win and $500 for a second-place finish in the truck classes. In addition, a $500 first-place prize and $250 second-place prize will be awarded to any Toyota-powered racer in the Sportsman buggy classes. An additional $2,000 bonus award is available to a Toyota-powered winner of the Borg-Warner Manufacturer Challenge.
