Pickup Truck Slugfest at Crandon Raceway this Coming Weekend
CRANDON, Wis. - Who makes the fastest and toughest pickups? And who are the country's baddest off-road racers?
Off-road race fans will find out this coming June 23-24 when Crandon International Off-Road Raceway hosts the country's high stakes national off- road racing circuit -- the Lucas Oil World Series of Off-Road Racing (WSORR). Nine classes of high performance trucks and exotic buggies battle Crandon's bruising 1.5 mile track at the Forest County Potawatomi Brush Run Races presented by Herculiner during two days of WSORR points racing.
"Racing at Crandon is a slugfest for bragging rights," said Cliff Flannery, president of the track. "We have a history of being the focal point where the top drivers in the country descend to go fender-to-fender, helmet-to- helmet to decide which racer is the best, who is the fastest on dirt," he said. "Many have met the challenge over the years and perhaps off-road great Walker Evans said it best: 'If you can win at Crandon, it makes all the rest look easy,' "said Flannery.
WSORR features the pinnacle of super high performance race trucks in this country with sophisticated engines, drive trains and suspensions customized to withstand the rigors of high speed off road racing abuse.
WSORR's PRO divisions include full-size pickups (F-150, Titan, Tundra, Silverado) -- as well as tightly-wound PRO Light Pickups (Frontier, Ranger, Tacoma). "These machines are pushed to the edge by this country's most talented off-road racers," said Flannery. The vehicles race one round on Saturday and a final round on Sunday for a record-shattering $100,000 purse. The highlight of the weekend is the 14th annual race for the Potawatomi Chairman's Cup, a showdown race between PRO 4x4, PRO 2WD and Super Truck pickups.
"If you are a racing fan looking for this country's most aggressive fender- to-fender action, you've just found it," said Doug Davis, general manager, WSORR. "People love trucks. That's why so many are sold nationwide and in Wisconsin. Crandon Raceway just happens to feature the fastest sprint racing off-road trucks in the country," he said.
High flying buggies - sometimes 30 on the track at once -- and other sportsman classes join the PROs for a full day show at Crandon. Racing action begins at 11 a.m. daily and concludes at 5 p.m. daily. "There's something on the WSORR menu for every off-road appetite," said Davis.
Crandon Raceway is located on U.S. Highway 8 just outside Crandon (crandonoffroad.com). Pits are open and free of charge as part of admission. The Forest County Potawatomi Brush Run Races presented by Herculiner are Rounds III & IV on the 2007 WSORR schedule (WSORR.com).
