D'Agostino flies at Knockhill nabbing doubles poles and race winagainst local talent
Fife, Scotland -- 20-year old American racing driver Joe D'Agostino hadanother brilliant showing this past weekend at the fun and challengingKnockhill circuit for the 7th and 8th Rounds of the UK Formula FordChampionship.
The talented Brackley-based youngster started the weekend off in grandstyle by besting his nearest championship rival and a handful ofexperienced local Scottish drivers, taking his Mockett.com Team JLRVan-Diemen to a pair of pole-positions for the weekend's races.
The constant change in weather during the weekend left all the teamsand drivers guessing as to how conditions would be for the races. Uponarrival to the circuit on Sunday the D'Agostino and the rest of theFord championship were confronted with heavy rains and treacherousconditions on the circuit. After a brief delay things got under way inRace 1 with D'Agostino making a conservative start loosing the lead torival Charlie Donnelly into the first corner. D'Agostino settled inand kept within striking distance of Donnelly waiting for any error onthe Irishman's part. D'Agostino's patience was rewarded when Donnellyslipped up on the exit of Clarke corner spinning off onto the grassallowing D'Agostino to drive on to a comfortable win, his 4th win thusfar.
With Race 2 later in the day conditions again changed as the sunshinebroke out from the clouds aiding to dry the soaked Knockhill circuit. With racing slicks and a dry circuit D'Agostino bolted from the lineworking hard to keep his pole-position advantage. After early pressurefrom Scottish local Joe Tanner, D'Agostino defended hard and led allbut the last four laps. A slight mistake through the chicane causedD'Agostino's car to bottom out and the American ran wide allowingDonnelly to slip past. D'Agostino hounded the back of Donnelly's cartrying to find a way past but ran out of laps having to settle for 2ndPlace.
D'Agostino commented, "I'm glad to have another great weekend withstrong results and to take more points for the Championship. It wasreally nice to get a win in the wet as it outlined the great effortTeam JLR made to improve our pace in those conditions. Kevin Whitaker,my mechanic, and the Team gave me a perfect car all weekend and Icouldn't have done it without them. I am feeling very confident now aswe are coming to circuits that suited me well last year. I think thepressure is on Donnelly now and he knows it, I am looking forward toThruxton this coming weekend!"
D'Agostino remains 2nd in the Championship with the 9th and 10thRounds of the UK Formula Ford Championship heading down to thehigh-speed Thruxton circuit on the 28th-29th May.
D'Agostino wishes to thank Team JLR and all of his sponsors: AraiHelmets, Doug Mockett & Co., Kuzzins Kustoms, Sutton Images, SparcoUSA, and all of his personal sponsors.
