Kimball takes win number two at Oulton

American racer Richard Kimball took his second race win of the weekend in round 12 of the UK Formula Ford Championship at Oulton Park in Cheshire.

A rain shower just before the start of the race made conditions tricky. Daniel Clarke managed to beat Makela away from pole position and led the field on the opening lap, the Finn dropping back to third place behind Stuart Gough.

Makela managed to find his way back past Gough on lap two, but was unable to make a move on Clarke before the safety car took to the circuit to allow the removal of James Gleave's Mygale from the exit of Old Hall.

Clarke did a great job of bunching up the field before the green flag was waved once again. Unfortunately, in his efforts to open up a quick lead he spun at Island corner, putting himself out of the race.

This allowed Makela into the lead. However, he was under increasing pressure from Kimball who had worked his way up from sixth on the grid. A lap later and the American pulled off a fantastic pass on the Finn around the outside at Old Hall.

Makela immediately started to fight back but his luck was about to run out as the red flags were shown for Armani Jamrozinski's car stuck on the circuit, ending his charge and the race.

"I love this circuit! It reminds me of some of the tracks in the US. At one point I was really struggling to find any grip as the rain made it really difficult. I just concentrated on making up places at the start and then making the passes whenever I got the chance. It's all come together for us this weekend," said Kimball.

Makela had to be content with second place with a determined Stuart Gough taking the final podium position. He had come under increasing pressure from Sebastian Hohenthal who was trying desperately to keep Joe D'Agostino behind him for fourth place.
