PETER DEMPSEY CHOOSES UK FFORD
MotorSport Vision and Northern Irish Formula Ford 1600 champion Peter Dempsey will graduate to the revamped UK Formula Ford (Duratec) Championship for 2006, driving a Ray for his family team Cliff Dempsey Racing.
The UK FFord series had long been the Dempseys' target for the new season, but deciding on a chassis, and whether to run the operation under the CDR banner or with another team, required more consideration.
"Having spoken to different chassis constructors and tested the latest Van Diemen, we decided to go with the Ray as it has been the best car in Kent FF1600 form and we feel that will also be the case in Duratec," explain Peter's father and team boss Cliff Dempsey.
"We will have support from Ray, including development parts, and we hope to start testing within the next two weeks."
As one of the first drivers to commit to the revised UK FFord series, Dempsey was entered into the draw for one of 10 free Duratec engines offered by the organisers. The selection was made at last week's Autosport International show, and Dempsey was one of the lucky drivers chosen to receive a free base unit.Cliff Dempsey Racing plan to run a second car in UK FFord, and are currently talking to potential drivers. Peter also intends to fit in some FF1600 outings around his Duratec programme, having thoroughly enjoyed his spectacularly successful 2005 season in the Kent class. As well as the MotorSport Vision, Champion of Brands and Northern Ireland titles, Dempsey also conquered the BRDC Golden Helmet, Moose Trophy and Castle Combe Carnival events -- winning a remarkable 33 races in all. After the season ended Peter would receive an even greater accolade, the Dunlop/Motorsport Ireland Young Driver Award, for the most promising rising star from his nation. Given those performances and honours, Dempsey's move into the more senior UK FFord Championship is eagerly anticipated, not least by his former FF1600 rivals.
