19 May, 2003 - Victorian driver Clint Cathcart is looking forward to this weekend's round of the Ford Racing Australian Formula Ford Championship at Winton Motor Raceway.
24-year-old Cathcart has completed several days of testing at the circuit prior to the start of the Championship and is confident of a good result in this weekend's third round.
"It will be the first time that I have been to a round of the Championship and already know the track," comments Cathcart.
"Winton is a track that I think I will enjoy racing this weekend. It will be the first time this year I can concentrate on improving my set up from the outset rather than trying to learn the track at the same time."
Cathcart is competing in this year's Ford Racing Australian Formula Ford Championship after graduating from the Ford KartStars Series that he claimed the victory in.
During the opening two rounds of the Championship Cathcart has been hampered by some minor teething problems in his first two rounds and is hoping to put them behind him this weekend.
"This year is all about learning and improving as the year progresses, despite being hampered by some minor problems in the opening two rounds I think I am on target for achieving that goal," said Cathcart.
"It is a steep learning curve going from karts to Formula Ford and some very good drivers as well but if I can be very competitive this weekend I will be happy."
Formula Ford is widely considered as the breeding ground for the "Champions of Tomorrow" with the likes of Jaguar Formula One driver, Mark Webber and V8 Supercar drivers Craig Lowndes, Marcos Ambrose and Russell Ingall, cutting their teeth in the category.
Cathcart will be one of 29 Formula Ford drivers will hit the Winton circuit for practice and qualifying before Saturday's 4.30pm and Sunday's 12 noon 10-lap races.
Winton Motor Raceway is located 10km North of Benalla in Victoria and approximately 190km North of Melbourne.
