Cathcart focused to go Ford.

29 Aoril, 2003 - Following a character building start to his Ford Racing Australian Formula Ford Championship Clint Cathcart is aiming to forward this weekend at Sydney's Eastern Creek Raceway.

After one his most successful years in his karting career last year where the 24-year-old netted the victory in the Ford KartStars Series he is focusing on the Ford Racing Australian Formula Ford Championship.

This weekend he is heading to the second round with the aim of gaining more laps under his belt at one of the many venues that Cathcart has never competed at prior to this year.

"One of the toughest things I think about this year will be learning the tracks because I haven't been to most of them let alone race on them," says Cathcart.

"About the closest I've ever got to Eastern Creek is racing on the kart track or playing the V8 race driver game on the Playstation 2. Over the past few weeks I have spent heaps of time on that."

With the Championship not visiting the Eastern Creek venue last year Cathcart will not be alone with his lack of experience around the Sydney circuit given the number of newcomers to the category over the past 2 years.

Despite completing several test days since earning the drive courtesy of the Ford KartStars Series Cathcart believes the best way to improve is by gaining more racing laps.

"My testing prior to the Championship was good but it is another level when it comes to race day," Cathcart comments.

"Although the opening round of the Championship was shortened I learnt so much over the weekend. I think that you can never learn enough in your first year of Formula Ford, you really have to be a sponge.

"One thing I think I do have though is good race craft through my years in karts."

While Cathcart is a new comer to the Ford Racing Australian Formula Ford Championship he has been involved in motorsport for over 10 years and through that time has netted 9 state Championships.

Qualifying at the 3.43 kilometre Eastern Creek Raceway will begin on Saturday with two nine lap races held at 12.45pm and 5.05pm on Sunday 4th May.

Eastern Creek Raceway is located 40kms from Sydney CBD, via Parramatta Road - then M4. Take the Eastern Creek Raceway exit, to Brabham Drive, Eastern Creek.
