Dempsey engaged in Walter Hayes Trophy at Silverstone

Silverstone Circuit, Northamptonshire, UK – Though it’s the off-season for most, Firestone Indy Lights driver Peter Dempsey spent this weekend at U.K.’s renowned Silverstone Circuit where he engaged in the prestigious Walter Hayes Trophy to seek his fourth, record-breaking victory in the event.

The Irishman returned to his Formula Ford roots to join Team USA Scholarship drivers Tristan Nunez and Jack Mitchell Jr. as representatives of his father’s team, Cliff Dempsey Racing.

Dempsey began the weekend competition by racing his No. 3 Ray GR12 to a second place finish in his heat race and a win in his semi-final.

After dealing with rain delays throughout the day on Sunday, the shortened 12-lap final finally went underway with Dempsey taking the lead on lap one.

Also vying for the most-wins record this weekend was British driver Joey Foster who quickly climbed up to second place and started to battle with Dempsey for the win.

The two contested hard for the lead and ultimately found themselves both out of the race after making contact on lap 10.

The incident allowed Team USA Scholarship driver Tristan Nunez to take over the lead and go on to win the event for Cliff Dempsey Racing. “I had a fantastic weekend of racing,” said Dempsey.

“I really want to congratulate Tristan (Nunez) on his win along with Cliff Dempsey Racing and the Team USA Scholarship program.

It was one of the best Formula Ford races I have ever been in. It was unfortunate to come together with Joey (Foster) while leading, but both of us were pushing really hard to break the record for the most wins in this event!

“I would like to thank Gavin Ray, Lewis Cook for lending me his car, my dad for sponsoring my flight home and for the support over the weekend, and Bob (King) ‘the legend’ for his hard work over the weekend!

A big thank you also has to go to James Beckett for organizing the Walter Hayes Trophy event. Without him, it would never be possible to have so much fun!”
