Engine issues limited Reddy's performance

Heading into the weekend, Double R Racing's Reddy was 10th in the championship while JTR's Vaidyanathan ninth in the rookie championship (23rd in the main championship).

Reddy finished 12th and 11th in the two practice sessions, headed by Carlin's Lando Norris while the returning Vaidyanathan ended 12th and 13th to start the weekend.

The qualifying didn't go as per plans for Reddy as he managed only 18th for race one while 19th for race three of the Rockingham round.

"I knicked the grass on my flying lap and my front wing collapsed which was strange and very unfortunate which meant I wasn't able to set a time on my fastest lap," Reddy told Motorsport.com.

Vaidyanathan, on the other hand, enjoyed qualifying as he finished 12th (for race one) and 11th (for race three). Norris took pole from Colin Herta (Carlin) and Daniel Ticktum (Fortec) for the first race while Herta was on pole for the third race from Norris and Ticktum.

Reddy gains; Vaidyanathan loses

The Double R Racing driver made a rocketing start in race one when he moved from the back of the grid to 12th in the opening lap.

He had a hefty battle as he lost positions midway but got them back to finish 10th and take away points while driving with an underpowered engine.

In contrast, Vaidyanathan lost chunk of positions at the start of the race when he dropped to 17th in the opening lap and stayed there for the major part of the race.

He overtook James Pull on the last lap and eventually finished 15th in the race won by Norris ahead of Ticktum and Herta.

Points for Vaidyanathan; Reddy DNF

Reddy started race two from 10th but his race didn't last really long. He dropped positions at the start when he called into the pits with a suspected turbo problems.

He was sent out later on but ultimately retired on lap 10 with mechanical problems.

"In race two, I was forced to come into the pits on lap one as there was a problem with my turbo which wasn't fixed properly by the engine tuner, but eventually they sent me out in the end where I only managed to do three laps," Reddy said.

The JTR Indian driver, Vaidyanathan, enjoyed success in the second race. Having started 15th, he moved up to 10th by lap seven.

Since then, he defended his position well to finish 10th (fourth in rookie) and score points, not only in the rookie championship but also in the main.

Ricky Collard (Arden) took the win ahead of Sennan Fielding (JHR Developments) in second and Sandy Mitchell (Arden) finishing third.

Disappointing third race

Reddy termed the third race as his "best" in Europe but, unfortunately, it ended in a disappointing result leaving the Indian frustrated.

Having started 19th, Reddy moved up to 13th in the opening lap and subsequently to ninth by lap nine enjoying a gritty drive.

With three corners to go, Reddy was hit by a fellow driver and thus his car caught fire due to damage which led to another retirement.

"It was probably one of my best races in Europe till date to come through to eighth, passing the race winner from race two as well," Reddy stated after the race.

"But I was hit off on the last lap with three corners to go and the contact was so hard that my car caught on fire. I was lucky to have got out of the car just in time."

"Overall, the weekend was extremely disappointing as I was driving well, but my engine was extremely down on power (about 8 tenths to a second off)," Reddy summing up his torrid weekend.

Vaidyanathan, after success in race two, had a topsy-turvy third race where he dropped to 17th on the opening lap, recovered to 13th by lap eight but lost again to drop back to 18th in the following lap.

Ultimately, he finished 16th in the end in the race won by Herta while Norris was second and Ticktum third.

With only two rounds to go in the championship, Reddy sits 11th in the championship with 81 points while Vaidyanathan is 22nd with 13 points (eighth with 98 points in the rookie list).
