Queensland Formula Ford driver Ash Lowe is again on the hunt for a naming rights sponsor after Brisbane based Fitlink Training College was unable to continue their association with Lowe Racing.

"I had a call from Dave Garton from Fitlink, just before the AGP meeting, and basically it was purely a commercial decision on their part." Ash said today from his work at Archerfield Speed Karts in Brisbane.

"Naturally it's not the best news I've had, but Dave is still with the team in a way personally, as he is letting me train for free at Fitlink, and we' ll be carrying signage to reflect that" he continued.

"Fitlink were excellent sponsors and I couldn't have asked for better" Ash concluded.

Ash also confirmed that he would be running at Phillip Island next weekend.

"I've got the budget definitely to run at Phillip Island, the eastern States championship rounds and a couple of meetings here in Queensland, to what level though, I honestly don't know"

When asked what a sponsor would do for the team Ash responded "In the short term, it would mean that we could afford to sleep somewhere other than in the trailer, for a start. We could do some decent testing and we could update the car a bit too. In the long term, it would give us the base to look at buying a newer car for 2002 such as a Mygale or a Stealth -- that would be great."

"We're not talking a million dollars here either" he added "I could run the whole championship in the Swift for a tenth of what it would cost me to run a V8Supercar, or even a Konica Series car!"

Ash also paid tribute to his crew saying that they were the ones who did all the work while he had all the fun. "My guys are all family or friends, and it's them I feel for when we are ankle deep in mud or when I just can't afford to buy them a decent dinner and a place to stay"

Ash's father Jim raced Formula 5000 in the late Seventies and his brother Matt competes regularly in Sports 1300 racing in Queensland.

"Mum and Dad actually stayed in Melbourne after the Grand Prix with the car, which saved me the hassle of getting it down to Victoria" he said "and without them I just wouldn't be able to race. One day I'll make it up to them"

When asked what his expectations were for Phillip Island Ash was sure of one thing. "I'll be staying away from the Shell sign that Bargs went through at turn one a few years ago, that's for sure. I've never been to the track so I'd be over the moon if we could get lucky with a top 10 finish"

Ash will be a special guest commentator at the 40th Anniversary of Lakeside race meeting this weekend and would welcome any help he can get, big or small. "Even a couple of litres of oil, for example would help" he said, "The guys could get pizza for once instead of my gourmet cooking"
