Current Holden Australian Drivers' Championship points-leader, Rick Kelly, claimed his second career pole position on the bumpy and tortuous streets of Canberra today. Kelly held out a rapidly approaching Christian Murchison to claim the valuable staggered front row starting spot for today's first 10-lap event.

Murchison, who has pushed Kelly all weekend in his Hocking Motorsport Reynard 98D was just about to start a real flyer, like a number of others, but fell foul of the session being brought to a close after just ten minutes of what should have been a twenty minute session. Murchison claimed second spot, just under 0.2s behind the Birrana Racing/ Holden Young Lion.

Alan Gurr (Konica/ Challenge - Reynard 94D) filled third spot after whittling his times down from yesterday's unofficial sessions and ousted Canberra's Dale Brede for third spot. Brede, who is making a one off return to the category for this event only, was lucky to survive for fourth after spinning off early in the session.

Peter Hill (M ONE 11 Reynard 95D) claimed fifth spot after missing yesterday's dry second practice and will line up in front of the first Silver Star competitor, Canberra's Terry Clearihan (Ralt RT23). <pre> Qualifying Results
