May 8, 2001 - Melbourne based Formula Holden racing team NRC Racing can't wait to race two of the fastest racing cars in Australia at Darwin's Hidden Valley Raceway this weekend. Formula Holdens are almost exact in dimensions and appearance to Formula One cars, something that Darwin and Northern Territory motor racing fans have never experienced.

These cars are ex-European Formula 3000 chassis made from carbon fibre and ultra-light metals ans can reach speeds in excess of 260kph in full race trim. Formula Holdens are single seater open wheelers powered by Holden's responsive 3.8 Litre V6 engine and hold outright lap records at all circuits where they compete. As an example, a Formula Holden will lap any circuit between 5 - 8 seconds faster than the quickest V8 Supercars, the super-fast cornering characteristics of these cars make them an absolute spectacle to watch and there is no doubt that Darwin race fans are going to be impressed.

NRC Racing's driver line up in Darwin starts with exciting 26 year old American, Emerson Newton-John. The Californian is the nephew of icon Australian actor and singer Olivia Newton-John and has international racing credentials behind him. He has chosen to race in Australia to further his experience level and Formula Holden has proven to be a major stepping stone for drivers seeking to compete internationally.

Newton-John debuted in the Holden Australian Drivers' Championship with a stunning second place at Phillip Island in Victoria and is looking forward to racing to win in Darwin. "From what everyone tells me, Hidden Valley is an awesome circuit and these are truly fantastic racing cars. I can't wait to get out there as this is really the start of the business end of the Championship. I couldn't think of a better venue in which to try to take my first Australian victory, I'm looking forward to a great event and a fantastic weekend in Australia's Northern Territory," The likeable American said.

NRC Racing's second driver is 21 year old New South Welshman Stewart McColl. This driver has been one of the finds of the season, driving to two superb second places out of four races so far. A rookie (first Formula Holden season) to the series just like his team mate, McColl is currently second in the Championship chase and desperately wants to beat title rival Rick Kelly in Darwin this Sunday. "From the V8 races that I have seen at Hidden Valley, the fans are going to really enjoy the sound and speed of Formula Holden. I am at a very competitive point in the title chase so it is crucial for me to score a win or two in Darwin. Hidden Valley is a super fast circuit so I think its going to be great fun as well," McColl said.

Both Emerson Newton-John and Stewart McColl would be delighted to participate in interviews or photo opportunities with the Darwin media before the races. They arrive on Thursday (May 10) at 11:40am, flight QF 673. The NRC Racing website contains a myriad of team and driver information and high resolution images to accompany any stories. /ends.
