The road to success is never an easy one but for Formula Holden star Tim Leahey, success at the forthcoming round of the Australian Driver's Championship will be just reward for an outstanding season of speed.
While Leahey has been consistently quick throughout the 2000 season, a run of mechanical dramas and other misfortune has kept him from the top step of the winner's podium.
He looked to have finally broken the drought at the recent event in Canberra only to suffer an engine failure while holding a commanding lead.
"I made a mistake in one race at Eastern Creek after a bad start, but other than that, we have been really unlucky," Leahey said.
"It is been very frustrating because from the first round we showed the car is on the pace but that first win still eludes us."
Leahey passed reigning champion Simon Wills on the opening lap of the 2000 championship for the race lead, only to suffer a gearbox problem 50 metres later.
That has been indicative of his championship chase.
"It is not as if the team are doing bad job preparing the car, they are one of the keys as to why we have been so fast," Leahey said.
"In many cases it has just been small problems that you would never believe could happen.
"The team has been working day and night to ensure we can get to the finish - if that happens, I am really confident we can do it at Queensland Raceway.
Leahey picked up good experience at the Queensland circuit last year, contesting the Queensland 500 for V8 Supercars with John Briggs.
"It was a fun circuit in a touring car but I am really looking forward to getting out there in a Formula Holden," Leahey said.
"The track will not be easy to find a good set-up but there will be a lot of time to be found if you can get your car to work well through turns one and two."-Paul ryan
