2001 Holden Australian Drivers Championship
Graduate News, 16th November 2001
The eight round 2001 Holden Australian Driver's Championship may have ended way back in September, but some of the category's finest graduates have been in the news of late.
Just last week 1998 Formula Holden champion Scott Dixon secured the Fed-Ex CART Rookie of The Year award at Fontana, California after a stellar debut year and closer to home Greg Murphy and Mark Skaife also claimed the spoils in the penultimate round of the V8 Supercar category.
Dixon, who won last year's Indy Lights title, now has his sights set on next year's CART crown and is also in the running for a berth in the Toyota F1 program.
1994 Formula Holden runner-up Murphy was victorious at the inaugural Boost Mobile V8 International at Auckland's Pukekohe circuit, taking out pole position and all three race victories during the category's first international foray. Skaife meanwhile, took out the 2001 Shell Championship Series during the same weekend. The three-time FH champ being joined at the high-speed Pukekohe circuit by no less than eight former Formula Holden competitors, with Kiwi Simon Wills (1999 & 2000 Champion) the latest ex FH star to step up to the V8 Supercar class aboard the Briggs Motorsport CAT Falcon.
