Malaysia's Alex Yoong, 24, fought from 16th on the grid to again top his best finishing of 7th in today's round 4 of the 2001 Formula Nippon Championship in FUJI.

Alex had a miserable qualifying when brakes problems stopped him from repeating his 6th position achieved in the FUJI test 2 weeks ago.

From 16th on the grid, Alex drove imaculately to steadily hauled himself to 7th in the 50 lap race.

"I am very happy for the team after the problems we had yeesterday. The brakes at the race were still not perfect but was better than qualifying. In the end I felt that the quick laps I put together after the tyres change got me up to where I finished. It was very hot today and the race was very very tough. My condition helped alot." said Alex.

Alex's manager for Europe, Simon Munger was at hand to witness his good performance, saying "Alex drove faultlessly today. His pace was right up there and he didn't make a single mistake. There are more to come from him, I assure you. I'm very proud of him."

Top 10 finishers are: 1st Car 5 Hattori, 2nd Car 6 Krumm 0,882s behind, 3rd Car 14 Michigami 12.012s behind, 4th Car 4 Kaneishi 31.430s behind, 5th Car 11 Masami Kageyama 36.568s behind, 6th Car 2 Firman 46.926s behind, 7th Car 7 Alex Yoong 1m 04.673s behind, 8th Car 36 Tamanaka 1m 14.756s behind, 9th Car 9 Lyons 1 lap and 10th Car 37 Masahiko Kageyama 1 lap.

Alex Yoong is sponsored by TV3 Malaysia, Malaysian Airlines, TAG Heuer, Brylcreem, NeuroWeb Malaysia, SITEFORUM and Konica Japan. His participation in Formula Nippon is supported by the Malaysian Ministry of Youth and Sports and Japan Race Promotion. The LeMans Team is sponsored by Domani, Sunoco and SuperStar.

Round 5 will be held in Suzuka early next month.
