Michael joins Team Impul for 2002 Formula Nippon Championship

A last minute deal has secured Michael Krumm a place in the Impul team of Mr Hoshino, where he will join his Nismo co-driver Motoyama.

"A few weeks ago I really did not think that I would be continuing in Formula Nippon this season, as the economic situation has been hurting a lot of teams. But thanks to Mr Hoshino and several other people pushing very hard for me to continue in the championship a solution has been found and I am very happy" commented Michael on signing for Impul.

Michael has been a regular competitor in Formula Nippon since returning to Japan in 1999 and finished second in the championship in 2000 driving for the 5Zigen Team.

Formula Nippon is one of the recognised steps to Formula One with the cars offering a significant test of driver skills - both technically and physically. In the recent past a Formula Nippon car could have theoretically qualified on the back of an F1 grid.

"2000 was probably my best year to date, I was fighting with Tora right up to the last few races of the year for the title and last year we had some good races in the beginning of the season, but dropped off later in the year as we stuck with the old car for to long. This season I will use a 2000 chassis and hope to be competitive straight away and for the whole season." Michael commented

Although Michael is now confirmed for both the Formula Nippon and Japanese GT Championship, he is still hopeful of securing some additional races back in Europe for 2002.
