15-year-old DeFrancesco was a long-time frontrunner on the Canadian karting scene and was third in the CIK-FIA European Championship's KFJ class, behind Enaam Ahmed and Mick Schumacher.

The Canadian's 2015 programme was scuppered somewhat by a serious incident late last year, but upon recovering, he tested with Carlin in MSA Formula and ran several rounds in Ginetta Juniors, scoring a breakthrough maiden pole at Rockingham.

MSA Formula is Britain's FIA F4-spec championship, with Carlin currently serving as its inaugural champion - having taken another karting star and Ginetta Junior alumnus Lando Norris to the 2015 crown, with Bryan Herta's son Colton also picking up wins for the squad.

"Devlin is a welcome addition to the race team, although he’s been part of Carlin for a season already," commented Trevor Carlin. "We’ve seen him come a very long way over the last year.

DeFrancesco is also confirmed as a member of Ganassi's newly-established junior programme and is set to be a mentee of one of the team's current drivers.

"It is a great honour for me to continue with the Carlin family," DeFrancesco said. "So far it has been an awesome year, with the pole position in Rockingham and then with the great program Chip Ganassi Racing put together, the Generation G.

"I’m really looking forward to 2016 and can’t wait to be in a racecar again. I need to thank everyone who has supported me for making this happen."

"He has potential that has obviously been recognised by us and the Ganassi Racing Teams," Carlin added. "I look forward to seeing what he can achieve on track in 2016."

DeFrancesco is Carlin's second confirmed driver for next year's MSA Formula campaign, joining podium finisher James Pull.
