Hampton Downs TRS: Piquet wins interrupted final race

Starting from pole, Piquet comfortably controlled the first 13 laps of the race. The Brazilian quickly built a 3.5sec gap over James Munro, maintaining the lead expertly as the laps ticked down.

But with six to go, all of Piquet’s hard work went out the window. A Julian Hanses crash led to a safety car, before the race was stopped while the car was recovered.

When the race was restarted Piquet picked up where he left off, storming to victory ahead of Munro and Jehan Daruvala.

Race 2 winner Guan Yu Zhou finished fourth, after jumping to second very briefly at the re-start, while Artem Markelov finished fifth.

Lando Norris finished sixth after starting back in eighth, with Kami Laliberte seventh, Ferdinand Habsburg eighth, Brendon Leitch ninth, and Taylor Cockerton 10th.
