99 RUSSELL/USAC TRIPLE CROWN PRO SERIES OPENS AT SEARS POINT NASCAR WEEKEND

McQuarrie Coming from England to Race for the Title

Sonoma, CA -- The 1999 Russell/USAC Triple Crown Pro Series begins with the first race during the Save Mart/Kragen 350 NASCAR Winston Cup event at Sears Point Raceway on June 26. Fifteen drivers will compete for cash awards totaling over $20,000.00 and a test with a top US F2000 team provided by Yokohama Tire Corporation, the title sponsor of the Triple Crown.

Tyler McQuarrie, the 1998 USAC Formula Russell Champion has come from North Hampton, England to collect his championship prize of a sponsored ride in the Triple Crown. McQuarrie is one of three Americans competing in Formula Vauxhall in Europe where he currently is eighth in the points battle. His ride in the Vauxhall series is funded by the Jim Russell Racing Drivers School. He earned the prize last November by winning the Jim Russell World Scholarships at Donnington Park, England.

"It's great to be back home and to race in the California sunshine," said the 21-year-old native from Walnut Creek, CA. "I have learned a lot racing in the Vauxhall series and I'm really looking forward to putting on a good show for the NASCAR crowd at Sears Point."

Also entered in the race is Nathan Smith of Escalon, CA. Smith won the 1998 Russell Graduate Runoffs last December is currently in second place in the school's amateur series, the USAC Formula Russell Championship. Smith beat-out 57 other drivers for a scholarship to race in the series in '99for free.

Timothy Barber of San Francisco, CA, who placed second in the Grad Runoffs is also entered along with newcomers Toshi Kanamoto, also of San Francisco, and Dave McEntee of Novato, CA. Kanamoto is battling to keep his third place slot in the Formula Russell Championship while Barber currently is sixth. McEntee placed third in last year's Formula Russell series and went to England with McQuarrie to compete in the World Scholarship finishing in the top 12.

The Russell/USAC Triple Crown Pro Series will race immediately after "happy hour", the final Winston Cup practice on Saturday.
