MEXICAN FORMULA 3000 SERIES
Marlboro Team driver Jimmy Morales won the Chrysler Formula 3000 Championship by finishing second al Mexico City, round 8 of the series, with a total of 706 points defeats irish driver Derek Higgins of the Quaker State Racing who has only 575 points, with one race to finish the 1997 season the title belongs to Morales.
This is the second Marlboro Cup Title Jimmy Morales wins, the fisrt one was in 1995 with the old Formula 2 chasis.
"It was a very hard year, Derek is an excelent driver, but at the end, only one gets to be champion" Morales, who is looking for a ride in the Nascar Winston Cup Series for the 1998 season.
"We worked very hard all year long, Morales is a great driver, as the rest of the participants, but we proved we had everithing to win the title, unfortunally the disqualification in San Luis Potosi gave the advantage to Morales, and we needed a miracle to be champions" Derek Higgins after the Mexico City race.
