Lexington, OH: Ohio native Andy Brumbaugh returns to Ohio this weekend to compete at the famed Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course. Brumbaugh will be racing in rounds 9 and 10 of the U.S. Formula Ford 2000 Zetec Championship driving for defending champion Cape Motorsports of Tampa, FL. Andy was born in near-by Zanesville, OH and now lives and goes to college in Columbia, SC.
"The CART Mid-Ohio weekend has always been special for me and my family. I kind of grew up at Mid-Ohio watching pro races as well as going to my father's club races here. The CART weekend has always been the highlight. Even after we moved to the west coast we would fly back for the Mid-Ohio CART weekend," said Brumbaugh. "To be here competing along with the Toyota Atlantic teams and the CART Champ Car teams is a dream come true. Those are the next steps on the open-wheel ladder for me."
Dominic Cape, President of Cape Motorsports said, "This should be a really strong weekend for Andy. When we were here in June Andy was in the top five virtually every session. He has found something since then and certainly will be competing for wins here at Mid-Ohio. Keep your eye on the #86 FormulaCar Magazine Van Dieman."
"Going to Mid-Ohio is like going home," said Andy LLC President Candy Brumbaugh. "We spent countless weekends at this beautiful track over the years. We still have family and friends near-by so it is always fun being here. I agree with Andy, the CART weekend is the most special of all."
Brumbaugh is a five-time karting champion, N.A.S.A. Formula Ford champion, SCCA National Champion and Canadian Pro Formula Ford Champion. Andy won the highly competitive and prestigious Canadian Formula Ford Championship in 2001 at the age of 17. He is the first American and the youngest champion in history, winning in his rookie season to also take Rookie of the Year. He broke all the records of great drivers like Paul Tracy, Alex Tagliani, Scott Goodyear and the late Greg Moore. Late in 2002 he was selected by Porsche to test for the factory at their new track in Leipzig, Germany. In 2003 Andy is competing in the Formula Ford 2000 Zetec Championship with the vaunted Cape Motorsports as well as racing historic Porsche's with Amalfi Racing.
