Guerrieri Set to Tackle Mid-Ohio
2003 Canadian Formula Ford Champion Readying for Challenges Ahead

TORONTO - June 21, 2004 - After a one-month hiatus, 2003 Canadian Formula Ford Champion, Christopher Guerrieri heads to Lexington, Ohio this coming weekend to participate in his second Formula Zetec Championship race weekend of the season. The Pickering, Ontario native who joined JDC Motorsports after three race events on the 2004 calendar were already completed, believes that his first trip to the challenging Mid-Ohio Sportscar Complex will be a valuable learning experience.

"I joined JDC Motorsports for the fourth event on the 2004 race calendar at Mosport so I'm still very much in a learning phase," says Guerrieri. "I'm pleased with the progress I am making so far and feel that this weekend at Mid-Ohio will provide me with valuable seat time that will help in my development as a driver. From what I know about the track, it's quite a challenge because it throws so many things at you. There are fast turns, slow turns and elevation changes that all come into play when you're trying to find the right balance in the car. Since learning how to set-up this racecar in particular is a new experience for me, I'm sure that this track in particular will be a great teacher."

Guerrieri, who won the 2003 Canadian Formula Ford Championship with 123 points and earned the coveted Ford Driver of the Year title, feels that this year in Formula Zetec is an important one.

"I'm moving into wings and slicks and it's a whole different type of thing," he says. "There's much more that needs to be discussed between the driver and engineer at this level and it's important for me to develop my own ability to define the type of racecar I want to drive. There's so much more that can be adjusted on the car than in the Formula Ford 1600. I'm learning how to feel things, how a slight damper change affects the car or a quarter of a turn on a wing. It's an amazing thing, the cars are so much more responsive and the more time I spend in the seat, the more comfortable it all gets."

Guerrieri, who earned media attention in 2003 not only for his stellar on-track performances but also for distinctive sponsorship program which was headlined by title sponsor the Society of Obstetricians and Gynaelcologists of Canada (SOGC) is still searching for additional sponsorship to complete the season.

"It's a challenge in Canada to find money to race," says Guerrieri. "For a young Canadian driver hoping to climb the ladder to Formula 1 or Champ Car, getting sponsorship is the single biggest problem. Last year our sponsorship program provided thousands and thousands of dollars in returns for our sponsors, but when I took those results to companies here for this year's program, I was shut down.

It's kind of overwhelming sometimes because I've seen many, many talented Canadian drivers, many Canadian champion drivers who could have gone on to international stardom, have to stop racing because they weren't supported properly. Off the race track I'm working with my father and writing compelling marketing programs that include racing, not focus on racing. Hopefully I'll find enough money to finish the season and get another ride next year."

Guerrieri's race weekend at Mid-Ohio begins this Thursday with an open test. The first of the series two races will be held Saturday at 12:30 p.m. CT, with the final event on Sunday at 9:20 a.m. CT.
