Pecorari Reigns as King at Mid-Ohio

LEXINGTON, OHIO (August 8, 2004) - Adam Pecorari, of Aston, Pa., won Round Fourteen of the Formula Ford Zetec Championship, part of the Cooper Tires Championship Series, at the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course. Completing the top-three is Wade Cunningham, of Auckland, New Zealand and Jason Bowles, of Ontario, Calif. Leading every lap, Pecorari captures both rounds of the Emco Gears Mid-Ohio Road Racing Classic doubleheader. Winning the American Continental Championship is Glennon Reidler, of Davie, Fla. Greg Pizzo, of San Jose, Calif., captures the 2004 American Continental Championship with a second place finish.

Commencing early in the morning under sunny skies, Pecorari led the field to the green flag. Going three-wide into the esses, Pecorari maintained the lead, as Ian Lacy passed Cunningham to move into second. Running in close formation, the top-four cars quickly built a gap on the rest of the field. Driving the fastest car in the race, Pecorari, in the No. 28 SAI Hydraulics Andersen Walko Racing Van Diemen Ford, began to pull away in the opening laps. Behind the leader, Cunningham and Lacy ran nose-to-tail battling for position, as Bowles came under attack from Andrew Prendeville and Bobby Wilson. Despite constant pressure, the top-five remained unchanged until lap 17, when Lacy looked up all four wheels and spun off-course. While Pecorari and Cunningham ran uncontested to the finish, Bowles, in the No. 7 Citywide Electronics/Sparco/Service Software Systems JDC Motorsports Van Diemen Ford, held off numerous challenges to capture the final podium position. At the checkered flag, Pecorari had captured his third straight win at Mid-Ohio by 2.708 seconds over Cunningham, in the No. 2 RCC/WPL/Placemakers Mt. Wellington/Turbo Traders Cape Motorsports Van Diemen Ford. With the win, Pecorari moves into third in the standings behind Prendeville and Wilson.

"It feels awesome to win again," said Pecorari, who has now lead the last 54 laps at Mid-Ohio. "Everything worked great this weekend and with the two wins I still have a shot at the championship."

"The race was quite tough today," said Cunningham, who remains second in the Greg Moore Rookie of the year standings. "The car was very good and I'm happy with the two podium finishes this weekend."

"I definitely happy with the result today," said Cunningham, who leads the Greg Moore Rookie of the Year standings. "The team worked hard all weekend and we'll be looking to finish the season on high note at Road America."

"I had a great time," said Reidler, who won both ACC races at Mid-Ohio. "I'm extremely pleased to be on the podium at Cooper Tires Championship Series Race."

Completing the top-five is Prendeville, of Monroeville, Pa., in the No. 25 Racelink/Roos Racing Andersen Walko Racing Van Diemen Ford, who leads the Zetec Championship standings by 10 points (287-277) and Wilson, of Dousman, Wisc., in the No. 3 Citrus Systems Cape Motorsports Van Diemen Ford, who has finished in the top-five at every race.
