BOWMANVILLE, Ont., Can. (May 20, 2000)-- Canadian Marc-Antoine Camirand, of Trois-Rivieres, Que and Aaron Justus, of Crestline, Calif., took the pole positions for the U.S. F2000 National Championship Presented by Speedvision doubleheader weekend Defending race winner Camirand, will start from pole on Saturday, with Justus leading the pack on Sunday.

Driving the No. 96 Key Motorsport Van Diemen Ford, Camirand captured Saturday's race pole on a cold track with a time of 1:21.716 (108.331 mph). The pole is Camirand's fifth, now ranking fifth on the all-time career list. Camirand will lead teammates Peter Walsh, of Cork, Ireland and Daniel Muniz, of San Jose, Costa Ricato the green flag in race one. In the second qualifying session, for race two, Camirand set the pace early, but was unable to get a clean lap late in the session, and finished third on the grid.

"You just have go for it here," said Camirand, who won one race of the doubleheader here last year. "I had a good setup to work from originally and was lucky enough to get some clean laps. No real team orders exist other than not to wreck the cars, so I'm sure my teammates will push me for the win."

Justus, driving the No. 32 Forsythe Indeck Racing/Torco Van Diemen Ford, recovered from a disappointing first qualifying session to capture the pole in the second qualifying session with a time of 1:21.596 (108.490 mph). The current points leader will be looking to dominate the second race like he did here last year, when he led every lap before being penalized.

"I knew I had a car capable of the pole and got the clean laps I needed this time out, " said Justus. "Surprisingly, I think I had a quicker car this morning, but just couldn't get any open space. I think it will be a great race both days and I'll be going for the win."

Rookie sensation Walsh, driving the No. 44 Key Motorsport Van Diemen Ford, captured second spot on the grid for both races with times of 1:21.749 (108.287 mph) and 1:21.952 (108.019 mph) respectively. The Irishman will look to use his European racing background on the first road course of the year to challenge for the win.

"I just love this track, Corner two is probably one of the best in the world," said Walsh. "I had some problems with my engine on Tuesday and Wednesday, so this morning was really my first session on the track. I still have some things to improve on the car."

Driving the No. 7 Texaco Havoline Racing/Fuji Film Van Diemen Ford, Muniz posted the third quickest time in qualifying number one with a time of 1:22.359 (107.485 mph). Muniz, who has recently switched from Primus Racing to Key Motorsport will be looking to capture his first-ever win on Saturday.

"I'm totally surprised," said Muniz. "I came into the pits apologizing for letting the team down, but the whole team was giving me the thumbs up. Working with these guys (Camirand and Walsh) has been great. Since I've got a similar style to Marc we've been able to share some setup ideas, which has helped."

Rounding out the top five for both Saturday and Sunday is Ian Lacy, of North Las Vegas, Nev., and James Hanson, of Leeds, England.
