KROHN COMPLETES F2000 CHAMPIONSHIP SERIES WEEKEND SWEEP AT VIR
Andersen Racing rookie edged his teammate Baker and Audette in race two of the doubleheader
ALTON, VA. (April 19, 2008) - Norwegian race driver Anders Krohn completed the weekend sweep on Sunday (April 20^th ), taking the victory in Round Two of the F2000 Championship Series at Virginia International Raceway. Standing alongside the Andersen Racing pilot on the post-race podium were Andersen Racing rookie Jonny Baker and fellow first-year driver Remy Audette, in an Audette Racing entry.
Following severe thundershowers overnight, Sunday race day commenced with qualifying taking place under overcast skies, but on dry track. Krohn, having captured the win in Round One on Saturday afternoon, carried the momentum into the session, posting the fastest time, securing the P1 position for the rolling start at the end of the day.
Getting the green flag under darkening skies, the 31-car field charged into turn one, going three and four abreast. Holding the top-spot into and exiting the right-handed turn, Krohn almost immediately began establishing a lead over Baker. Behind the lead duo, Ski Motorsports' Tim Minor enjoyed a superb start, slotting into third place, just ahead of ZSports Midwest's Jordan Taylor and Audette. With the fight for third repeatedly featuring cars side-by-side entering the turns, first and second soon had a multi-car advantage. Over the course of the next several laps, the duo of Krohn and Baker became increasingly spaced apart, while the fight for position behind intensified.
While Minor initially retained third place, within a few laps Audette had taken over the position and began to pull away. With first through third evenly spaced apart, attention turned to the fight for fourth through sixth. Proving to be the most entertaining fight among the front half of the field, Taylor, Brian Graham Racing's Kyle Marcelli and ZSports Midwest's Noah Bystrom repeatedly shuffled places. Running nose-to-tail for more than half of the 14-lap affair, the order was not finalized until the checkered flag waved.
Out front, Krohn never put a wheel wrong around the picturesque 3.270-mile road course. Leading from start to finish, the series newcomer completed the season-opening doubleheader weekend sweep, crossing the stripe ahead of Baker and Audette. Bystrom, having held off repeated challenges took the flag in fourth, while Marcelli completed the top-five. After running among the lead pack early on, Minor finished 13^th , earning the GTP Racing Components Master award at VIR. St. Clair Motorsports Bill Jordan and Front Range Motorsports' Dwight Rider both improved 14 positions overall during the weekend, sharing the G. JEZARIAN Pass Master award.
The F2000 Championship Series resumes, May 10-11, with Rounds Three and Four taking place at the famed Road Atlanta road course in Georgia. Entering the doubleheader, Krohn leads the championship fight ahead of his teammate Baker. Live news, notes and results from the track will be available in the official EFCN Trackside Live discussion thread, while reports will be available on eFormulaCarNews.com in the news section.
