Club Championship Round 2 - Oran Park 7-5-2001
It's the weekend for Formula 2 racing so as is the usual for Sydney it's raining. The third outing for the Formula 2 Association is again greeted with inclement weather, but soldier on they did for the 2nd round of the Club Championship at Sydney's Oran Park Raceway near Camden. Nine cars turned out for the first non-state championship round of the season. Also the 2nd round of the National formula 3 Championship was being held at Wakefield Park, so the turn out was considered good.
Qualifying was a 15-minute affair in damp conditions, with stand out from round 1 Ian Black in the Reynard 913 again the quickest stopping the watch at 0.49.5485 seconds. Black was happy with the time but not happy with the broken oil pump which would put him out of the rest of the meeting. Next up was Terry Robinson his Cheetah at 0.50.5603. Next up was Newcastle's Kevin Lewis' Ransberg Cheetah with a 0.51.3811. Following them were Greg Muddle in the Van Dieman, Antony Wood's Wren F2, Tom Brickley in the Kaditcha and John Muddle, father of Greg, driving his Ralt RT30. Robin Bishop in the Richards 201 and Don Hewitt's Ralt RT30 didn't venture out.
Race 1 was over 6 laps with Kevin Lewis taking the spoils over Terry Robinson. Next were John Muddle followed then by Antony Wood and Greg Muddle. Bishop, Brickley, Hewitt and Black did not start. Lewis set the fastest lap at 0.44.599 (158 kph).
Race 2 was a 12 lapper. All the competitors appreciating a longer stint in the car, but none were able to stop Kevin Lewis again taking the spoils over John Muddle this time with Terry Robinson 3rd. They were followed by Antony Wood and Greg Muddle. Tom Brickley failed to finish. Bishop Hewitt and Black again failed to bother the lap scorers. Lewis set the fastest lap at 0.44.8531 (157kph).
The final race of the day was another 12 lapper with stand out of the day Kevin Lewis winning quiet comfortably. John Muddle again took 2nd with Terry Robinson on the final step on the podium. Brickley, Wood and Greg Muddle followed them, with Black, Bishop and Hewitt not starting. Lewis set a 0.44.8874 (157 kph) fastest lap.
The next race meeting will be at Sydney's Eastern Creek on June 23. Don't plan a BBQ that weekend, `cause I'm sure it will be raining.
