Portuguese Rui Aguas wins first race at Magny Cours. Garcia makes fourth and Burlotti finishes 7th

Tomorrow Sunday, second race to decide name of series leader

Magny Cours, 15 July.- Driver Rui Aguas (Venturini Racing) won today at Magny Cours the first race of the fifth round of the Open Telefonica. The series overall standings show a tie between Italian Giuseppe Burlotti and Spaniard Antonio Garcia (119 points). 20.000 spectators at Magny-Cours, cloudy sky and light drizzle before the start of the race, even though it ended up with a dry track. Second race tomorrow (24 laps) with compulsory pit stop for two-wheel change.

Rui Aguas got today his first victory in his second season in the Open Nissan. In 1999 the Portuguese visited five times the podium and this season he got one third place... and three second places. The Portuguese started from the third row and rushed to the second position in the first lap after (behind "poleman" Ravier) after passing consecutively Garcia, Gay and Dalla Lana. Aguas waited for Ravier's mistake and he could overtake him on lap 12, five laps before the end of the race, also helped by Ravier engine trouble. No changes in third and fourth positions with both Adrian Campos Motorsport drivers, Antonio Garcia and Patrice Gay.

Series leader Giuseppe Burlotti had several problems to keep track with the drivers on top of the race, and he has been about to lose the series leadership. He managed to finish in 7th place (4 points) taking profit from a touch and spin out between Bobbi and Sarandeses.

Second race of the meeting scheduled for tomorrow at 12.15 hours local time. Series leadership is to be decided (Burlotti and Garcia tied in 119 points). Aguas gets closer, but the Portuguese (88 points) still has a 31-point disadvantge to cut.
